Whatever is shared with the therapist is considered private and strictly confidential. Canadian confidentiality laws are in effect. Your information will not be shared with anyone else. Web-cam chats will not be recorded and any notes will be kept in a locked bureau. In addition, your email address will not be distributed to anyone. Online sessions are totally safe and secure.
The only time a therapist may breach this confidentiality would be in the following rare situations:
* You - the client - gave written permission to do so.
* You were believed to be a threat to yourself or someone else.
* The therapist is summoned to appear in court.
* Therapists are required by law to report any suspected child abuse to the proper authorities.
